I believe that good urban design is absolutely essential to creating a sense of place and supporting economic vitality, as well as improving quality of life. With population growth and rising immigration, this is a pivotal time in our urban history.
I believe in cities and their possibilities. I feel that we must first successfully remove the old stereotypes and failed strategies that created sprawl, then promote progressive principles that embrace unique places and sustainable alternatives. Cities are about people, not just buildings. Planning and maintaining them is both an art and a science.
